MESSAGE 5 – “The Helmet of Salvation – Securing the Mind” (Ephesians 6:17a)

Confidence, Clarity, and Covering

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, - Ephesians 6:10-18 ESV

Theme: A soldier who loses his head loses the fight. Salvation guards our thoughts and secures our ind. Battles are fought in the mind first. If the enemy can corrupt your thoughts you will lose ground. Additionally, the helmet identifies whom you belong to and that you are ready to put it to use. It is not an option - put the helmet on!

Confidence in Identity – Know whose you are.

Mentally align your thoughts with God's word, which says who I am.

Read Rom 8:1 - There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

My assurance comes from confidence in the Word of God.

Clarity in Understanding – Think redemptively, not reactively.

A hit to the head can kill a soldier

A hit to the mind can steal a believer's confidence

Our weapon is the truth. Must know the truth to combat the lies.

The lie(s): It is not worth it? What is the point? I'm not worthy?

Read Rom 12:2: Be transformed and progressively changed by focusing on the word.

Covering in Assurance – The hope of salvation keeps the mind stable.

Read Rom 12:2 - Ours is a living, active salvation.

We cant live in victory with a defeated mind.

Read 1 Thess 5:8, Hope and confidence will produce endurance

How to put on the helmet:

#1 - Declare your identity/reality out loud. Your mind believes what your mouth says and repeats. Read Prov 18:21

#2 - Saturate your thoughts in scripture. Salvation protects your thoughts when scripture shares your thoughts.

Read, meditate, try to memorize, speak it and then stand on it.

#3 - Reject thoughts/conversations that don't belong to God. Read 2 Cor 10:5, if I don't it will impact my ability to obey.

#4 - Surround yourself with voices that strengthen your mind. Stay close to people who speak life, faith & scripture (truth). A renewed mind grows best in a renewed community.

Our minds are not playgrounds they are battlegrounds.

Consider what your mind dwells on as that is what is shaping your mind and actions.
