Your Identity and Destiny in Christ from Grace-Point Fellowship

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God;

once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. [1] 1 Peter 2:9-10

People spend their lives trying to answer the questions, “Who am I?” and What is my purpose?” Life is full of opportunities and choices, and if we don’t know our identity, we could end up in a career, relationship or situation that we are not built for.

In this study series on our identity in Christ you’ll learn that knowing “what” you are called to means knowing “who” you are called to.

But before you know “who” you are called to you must know who YOU are in Christ.

Hi, I’m Pastor Rip Roberts and I am thrilled to welcome you to Point of Grace, the podcast ministry of Grace Point Fellowship!

Having a personal relationship with God begins the moment we realize are need for Him,

admit we are sinners and, in faith, receive Jesus Christ as Savior.

At the heart of what this relationship means is the fact that we receive a new identity and a new destiny. In Jesus you do not lose your true self… in fact, you can only become your true self in Him.

Your identity in Christ is not determined in terms of who you are or what you’ve done but on who Jesus is and what He has done as your Savior.

It is defined in three dimensions;

1.) What God does in you;

2.) The relationship He creates with you and

3.) The destiny He has ordained for you.

God has chosen you.

You are God’s choice.

But He didn’t choose you to be alone. He chose you to be part of His people.

He gave you a divine identity that includes a divine nature and a divine nationality as part of His Divine Nation!

You are God’s special possession!

God made you who you are, so you could make known who He is.

Christ is your life—not only the guarantee of it in heaven, but the down payment of it by the Holy Spirit who is living in you now!

His joy becomes your joy;

His love becomes your love;

His peace becomes your peace;

His strength becomes your strength!

We can’t experience anything greater than the fullness of our union with Christ.

This miracle all began with God: You were chosen by the Father. Here is what the Word of God tells us in Ephesians 1:3-6;

[1] The New International Version. (2011). (1 Pe 2:9–10). Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son[1]

(Eph. 1:3–6).

This choice was not based on anything you had done, because you weren’t even on the scene. It wasn’t based on anything God saw that you would be or do.

God’s choice was based exclusively on His grace and love.

We have been chosen by the Father, purchased by the Son, and set apart by the Spirit.

Scripture tells us;

Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways!

For who can know the Lord’s thoughts?

Who knows enough to give him advice?

And who has given him so much

that he needs to pay it back?

For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory.

All glory to him forever! Amen. [2](Rom. 11:33–36),

We cannot explain it but we can rejoice in it.

SO...

Be encouraged in God’s Word and rest in His promises.

It is my prayer that every time you tune into the Point of Grace Podcast you become better equipped and more encouraged thru the teaching and practical application of the Word of God.

So, stay tuned, keep listening, keep sharing and remember that God loves you and we here at Grace-Point Fellowship Love you too!

After all, that’s the Point of Grace.
